How to prepare organic compost
Organic waste constitutes almost the 70% of our household waste, and it is very useful for making excellent compost for our plants.
What do we need to make organic compost?
Adding compost to the soil is one way of maintaining the soil's fertility. And there is nothing better than organic compost completely devoid of chemicals.

The food scraps that are useful for us to make this compost are eggshells and fruit peelings, vegetables, used mate herb and coffee, leaves, manure, and some pruning debris.
We must also look for some pieces of old cotton cloth or pieces of iron sheets, so as to cover the well that we are going to dig.

We must never add glass debris, bones, meat, plastics or cans to our organic compost.
How to make homemade compost or fertilizer
The first thing we must do, after gathering the basic elements, is to dig a well of about 50 cm in depth and 50 cm in diameter.
If we want to make only small amounts, we can use a 200-liter pot or a similar one, in which we will add the "ingredients" in the same way, and we will follow the same procedure when we take care of it.
We must put the trimming debris in the bottom; over that, the organic debris; and finally, we must cover it with a bit of soil. Every day, we must add a little bit more of the soil we took off when we dug the well.
The well or the recipient must be covered with the cloths or the iron sheets, and some worms must be added so that they help to aerate the soil.
If it is too hot, it is convenient to water the compost, since humidity is absolutely necessary so that the material can be decomposed and formed.

When is the compost ready?
The compost will be ready in about 2 or 3 months, if we start making it during the summer. If we make it during the winter, it will take about 5 months.
To be on the safe side, we can start checking the compost and when we notice that all the organic matter that we have put has been completely decomposed, the compost will be ready to be added to our plants. They will be thankful.
